Temporarily increase frequency of extermination to address pests observed on stairs to basement and beneath equipment in basement. Evidence of pests was not observed in food service or storage areas. During a reinspection completed on 7-16-08 a juvenile mouse was observed in the basement and droppings were observed around the mop storage area. Provide a written Integrated Pest Management Report for BISD to review proof of contract with a professional pest control service and a copy of extermination report dated between July 16 2008 and July 23 2008. Staff should not be providing pest control duties.
Why This Matters
DISEASE VECTORS: Mice produce 50-75 droppings daily containing Salmonella, Hantavirus. Cockroaches carry 33 types of bacteria, 6 parasitic worms. Flies regurgitate and defecate on food, spreading E. coli, Shigella. One mouse can contaminate 10 times more food than it eats. Pest allergens trigger asthma in 26% of inner-city children.

Food Protection
Reroute the refrigeration condensate drainage out of the vegetable prep sink in the basement walk in. Clean and sanitize the sink before use to prevent cross contamination of vegetable products. Management has contracted plumber to reroute discharge.
