The establishment is infested with small flies. Popeyes must contract their exterminator to mitigate the situation. By Wednesday December 9 2009 Popeyes must provide an action plan to the Health Division. The Health Division will return to the establishment on December 14 2009 to verify that the mitigation efforts have been successful.
Why This Matters
DISEASE VECTORS: Mice produce 50-75 droppings daily containing Salmonella, Hantavirus. Cockroaches carry 33 types of bacteria, 6 parasitic worms. Flies regurgitate and defecate on food, spreading E. coli, Shigella. One mouse can contaminate 10 times more food than it eats. Pest allergens trigger asthma in 26% of inner-city children.

Facility must be pest-free: No live or dead pests; No droppings or urine; No gnaw marks or rub marks; No nesting materials; Effective pest control program; Monthly professional service recommended; All openings sealed; Remove harborage conditions.

Non-Food Contact Surfaces
The hoods and vents have been cleaned by an approved vendor. However the hood / ventillation system above the fryers has yet to be balanced / repaired. At present odors and smoke from the fryers continues to build-up within the restaurant and the hotel rooms above the restaurant. The hood / ventillation system must be repaired to eliminate this condition. A summary report documenting the repairs must be provided to the BISD within two-weeks. According to management the system is to be serviced / repaired on 9/29/09.

Installed and Maintained
While filling the three-bay sink with hot water no hot water was available to the hand sinks within the kitchen. Once the faucet to the three-bay sink was turned off hot water returned to the sinks. The automated system must be repaired to permit hot water to the hand sinks at all times.
